As noted in national media outlets last week, the company’s new digs will sprawl across multiple buildings on Manhattan’s West Side. Google Hudson Square will span about 1.7 million square feet.
Unsurprisingly, the new east-coast headquarters will also bring jobs.
Lots of them, slated to be filled by a highly educated and well-paid work force. Reportedly, Google’s current NYC employee count of about 7,000 workers will approximately double to 14,000 prior to 2030.
The reasons for Google’s selection of the nation’s vast and paramount urban metro for next-stage growth are multiple and direct. The area “continues to be a great source of diverse, world-class talent – that’s what brought Google to the city in 2000, and that’s what keeps us here,” stated a senior company official last week.
A recent Washington Post article duly notes the metro’s “ascendance as a technology stronghold” in recent years. The city’s “thriving tech scene” reportedly features well more than 300,000 employees involved in start-ups and at established companies.
